Biography

Christos Davatzikos is the Wallace T. Miller Sr. Professor of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania, and Director of the Center for Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics (CBICA). He holds secondary appointments in Electrical and Systems Engineering, as well as in the Bioengineering and Applied Mathematics graduate groups at Penn.

He obtained his undergraduate degree from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece (1989), and his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University (1994) as a Fulbright scholar. He formerly founded and directed the Neuroimaging Laboratory at Johns Hopkins before moving to Penn in 2002, where he established the section of biomedical image analysis.

Dr. Davatzikos is a highly distinguished researcher, recognized as an IEEE Fellow and a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). He has served on numerous scientific journal editorial boards and grant review committees globally.

Research Interests:

Medical image analysis, imaging pattern analysis, machine learning, clinical studies of aging, Alzheimer’s Disease, schizophrenia, brain cancer, and brain development.

Biography

Faïez Gargouri is a computer science Professor at the Higher Institute of computer science and multimedia at the University of Sfax, Tunisia, where he served as Head and Director of the MIRACL Laboratory for several terms. He was the Vice President of the University of Sfax (2020-2024) and currently serves as a scientific consultant representing Tunisia to the European Union in ICT.

He holds a Master’s from Paris 6 (1990), a PhD from Paris 5 (1995), and an Habilitation from the University of Tunis (2002). His research spans Information Systems, Data Warehousing, Knowledge Management, and Ontology, with over 400 publications and 10 books.

A pioneer in his field, he is a founding father of the JFO and ASD conferences and recently co-founded TunAISia (Tunisia Chapter of the Association for Information Systems). He is also the President of the APPAD association and was awarded the title of Chevalier de l’ordre national du mérite in Education and Science.
